Room 4

I-way
Having fun, but learning important skills at the same time.

I-Way
Today we did I-way scooting.  We learnt how to keep ourselves safe when scooting down the road.

Crazy Hat day
Today (August 10) the WHOLE of Clive School turned up in some pretty crazy hats.  Many children (and their parents) had gone to ALOT of creative trouble, making a hat.

INQUIRY
In our Inquiry group we need to choreograph a routine to perform for an audience.  We have looked at Jump Jam and Go Noodle to help us gather our ideas, as well as fitness cards.  Here are some of the groups at work...

Rugby
Ms Petherick is trying to improve her camera skills.  When taking photos of us, she gets lots of photos of just our feet, or hair.  Sometimes she gets lots of photos of the atsro-turf!  Children moving while practicing their rugby skills aren't the easiest to photograph!  BUT - showing a growth mind set, here are more photos.  We are practicing our tackling skills with Duffy and Sam on Wednesday 1 August.

Rugby
This term for PE we are learning rugby skills.  Duffy came to Clive School to help us learn some of these awesome skills on Wednesday 25 July.  Here are some photos of Room 4 taking part in the PE programme.

Jam Jump
As part of our Inquiry Learning we did some Jump Jam routines - with the Jump Jam champ.

Writing time in Room 4

We are brain storming some fabulous vocabulary to add to our story writing.  We have a bubble map to help us with our brain storming.  We work with a buddy.  These wonderful words help us to be really descriptive in our writing.

We have written some stories about some stories about our wonderful Mary-Lou

FFFFF Marylou was pumping up a ball. Pop a ball flew high up in the air and hit someone on the head. Marylou went to see if the poor child was ok. “Are you ok?” “A little.” “I’ll bring you to the sick bay.” “Can I please have an ice pack.” “Thanks.” Now I’ll be looking for you tomorrow. Ok. Now oh be careful. But she saw a bruise on a child’s leg. “DO you need ointment?” “Yes please.” Wipe wipe. Marylou was wiping stinging ointment. “Ouch ouch it stings.” “Well you’re ok now. Now I need to get the ball out of the hedge.” “Now I need my extending ladder” Whoshhhhh went the wind. Climb climb Marylou was hugely high. Grab… Grab… cccCCCCC bounce bounce!! Pump pump. The ball was finally pumped up.  By Cooper

Amazing Mary-Lou                                                                                                            Mary-Lou you are a kind, generous, helpful builder.  You are always caring, lovely and special to us.  Mary-Lou you have a growth mind-set.  Mary-Lou you fix the boxes and desks for us if we drop it.  Mary-Lou you have a wonderful lovely smile.  When we say hello Mary-Lou you always, always have a smile to us.  If we need help you come and help us.  We are lucky to have you Mary-Lou.          By Jahdae

Splash!  Oh no our new ball went into the Muddy Creek!  Mary Lou is zooming to help us…Yay!  Hip, hip horray for Mary Lou!  We are lucky to have Mary Lou at school. Ffffffffff!  Marylou is pumping up a flat ball for Clive School.              By Cailin

“Mary-Lou could I have some help?”
“Yes I’m coming”
Mary-Lou is probably one of the nicest people in the world.  See.  Listen. “Mary-Lou can you help pump up a ball?”
“Yes.”
Mary-Lou is generous with her time and skills you ever heard for sure.  No body is a better caretaker than Mary-Lou because Mary-Lou is very helpful, careful, lovely and special.
“Help, help a ball is stuck.” Mary-Lou is coming.  She races to get her ladder.  She puts it up against the tree and climbs like anyone but is super fast.
Helpful Mary-Lou can do….. EVERYTHING… well Clive School thinks so.
“Help, help, help someone is hurt.”
“I’ll help” Quickly, quickly.  Yes……..
By Ava

Poof!!  Mary-Lou is always there when we need her to get balls down from the roof… to clean the pool and blow up balls.  She’s really generous with her time and awesome skills.  We are really lucky to have her at Clive School.  When we have a special event on she sets up the stage.
“Mary-Lou I want to play with this netball ball could you please pump it up?”
“Definitely.”
She never says no.
When a ball is in the creepy creek she thinks outside the box and poof it’s right in front of me.  If someone was hurt she would take them to the office to get a nice cold ice pack and a plaster.  She always shows she cares about us.  If we lost our jersey I can predict she would find it.  When we go to get milk her work space is dazzling clean so we can find the milk.  She cheers up my day when she puts her lovely smile on her face. Most care takers are boys because they have to do building and sport stuff but Mary-Lou does not care, she does all of that.              By Emma

RmRm!  Here comes Mary-Lou with the lawnmower.  Mary-Lou is a kind person.  Mary-Lou can you please get the ball off the roof.  Yes.  Sure, be there soon.                By Indy

Mary-Lou
Mary-Lou is kind, caring, helpful and generous.  We love her and when we ask her to pump up a ball she would always say “sure thing.” I love Mary-Lou and all the things she does for us.  She is a good caretaker.  She stands up for people.  She makes sure the uniforms make us look smart.  She smiles to people.  She makes sure the chemicals are right for the pool.  She gets balls off the roof.  She gets the balls of the field, cleans up everything, gives the balls to the right rooms.  She is careful.  I just love her being our caretaker.  She does everything for everyone.  She builds our classrooms and does the painting.  She gets balls out of our Muddy Creek.  Mary-Lou is the best. I think she is the best person in the school.         By Lauren

Special, lovely Mary-Lou is a kind caregiver.  When someone is hurt she comes to help them.  When something is broken she comes to fix it.  Mary-Lou is….. lovely, kind, loves to help people, thinks outside the box, has a growth mindset, is tidy and smiles a lot.  Even she climbs up on the roof to get balls off from the roof.  Everyone in the whole school likes Mary-Lou.  She stands up for people.  When a ball is in the creek she gets it out.  In the video the school said “We love what you do Mary-Lou.”     By Neveh

FFFffffffffffff! Mary-Lou is pumping up a ball with a smile like always because she is a … SMILE MACHINE!!  She is a generous and kind person to this school by helping us.  She is helpful, careful, tidy and stands up for people.  We’re really lucky to have her because without her our school would be extremely boring.  Without her we wouldn’t have that much stuff which is humiliating. She is actually our caretaker, of course.  Thank you Mary Lou for coming to this school, it’s incredible what you can do.     By Vinnie

What’s that loud noise?  I think it is Mary-Lou mowing the wavy, wet grass.  Whooooops Mary-Lou, I kicked the ball too high.  Can you please get the ball out of the tree for me?  “O.K.” said Mary-Lou.   “Thanks” said Charlie.
“Oooops” said Trafford “I fell off the monkey bars.”

Writing
We are working hard on hooking a reader in right from the start of our story.  We have talked about the importance of the first word and WOW words.  Here are a few examples.  It is good to see different sentence starts and these writers trying really hard to create a picture in the readers head.

Yawn!!  Amy feels disappointed, extremely lonely and very nervous.  She has an enormous gymnastics show.  Everyone’s coming to watch.  Suddenly…she discovered her parents were coming and her parents expected her to come first in absolutely everything…

One day a girl went to the shop.  She bought a brown chair.  But it wasn’t any old chair.  When she sat on it, the chair pinched her…… you know what!

Music
Every Wednesday we learn music in the AV room.  We sing, play musical instruments and learn how to read musical notes.

Growth Mind Set
This year we are talking about growth mind sets.  We are trying to change our words and in that way change our attitude.  We have also talked about the power of "yet".  Sometimes something might be tricky for us now - we don't know it YET - but if we keep trying we will get there...

ART work
These gorgeous pictures have been on our wall since the art deco day.  Fabulous colour and design.

Making Ice Cream challenge.

Sorry for the late photos about our ice cream challenge.  There are more photos on the 4,5,6 combined blog.

 Soccer skills.
We are focusing on learning soccer skills for the first five weeks of this term.  Today we learnt how to dribble and trap the ball.

The wonderful Room 4!!

Art Deco.  Hi parents!  Sorry about the delay in posting these Art Deco photos.  We had a few problems with the blog at the beginning of the year.  Hopefully all the problems are all sorted now so we are doing a bit of a catch up with some of the photos from earlier in the year...

Easter FUN!   Thanks to Kirsty Jones Room 4 had an Easter fun day.  Here are some photos of us happily creating...

Stories about our Inquiry learning..

Yeast Experiment by Jade
Room 4 made some yeast.  We put warm water in a bottle.  Then we put sugar and yeast in the bottle.  We made it last week.  I was excited.  There was lots of bubbles!  Also we had a balloon.  We used a teaspoon to put all of the ingredients in.  We put it in the Sun for a minute.  I saw the balloon rise.  Ms Petherick didn’t put all of the ingredients in the bottle.  The warmth helps the yeast rise.  Yeast is alive! Yeast eats sugar!  I make bread at home with my Mum.  The balloon rose!
Yeast Experiment by Indy
Last week Room 4 did a yeast experiment.  For the experiment we used water, a bottle, a balloon, sugar and yeast.  At morning tea time we saw it rising!  We put a sign by it.  We waited for it to rise and it did.  After morning tea time it was huge!!
Yeast Experiment by Trafford

Last week Room 4 did an experiment on: how does yeast make bread grow?  Here are some step by step steps to make a balloon rise with yeast (instead of bread.)  What you need: sugar, yeast, warm water, balloon and a bottle.  It needs t be a sunny day.  1. Put bottle on flat surface.  2. Put two teaspoons of sugar into the bottle.  3. Put 1 tea spoon of yeast in the bottle.  4. Put half a cup of warm water.  5. Put balloon on top.  Now put in sunny spot.

INQUIRY-

We are learning about scientific steps.
We need to experiment what will be the ideal bread to make a fairy bread sandwich.
We did a taste test of bread and each group decided on which bread they think will be the ideal bread.

We started thinking about how to make bread.  We researched this.

We did an experiment to show how yeast works.  Here are some photos to show our learning:

Stories

Weed cutter By Emma
On Monday 12th of March 2018 the weed cutter came to Muddy Creek.  There were lots of weeds in the creek.  There were birds that liked to eat the eels.  This weird boat came and cut the weeds.  A man was driving it.  There was a big blade that lowered into the water and cut the weeds.  Room 4 went to have a little peek, it looked very weedy.  I was glad they were cutting it.  If the eels did no swim away fast they would get cut.  I wouldn’t like to be an eel.  The boat made a creaky noise when the sharp blade lowered into the water.  The funny boat had a big white cover on it.  Sometimes some nice pretty pukekos go over to Muddy Creek.  The water was all murky and green.  The boat made a little bit of noise.  The water made a swishy noise.  It didn’t look like they were cutting it but it was.

P.E. Gear by Trafford
On Monday the 12 of March Room 4 walked (in a line) to the field to have a look at all the balls that had been left out at morning tea and lunch time.  Room 5 lost – 1.  Room 4 lost – 4.  Room 6 lost – 5.  This next thing is ….CRAZY!  Clive School lost 46 balls and they were $460.  To my surprise Seniors lost more than the Juniors.  Then Middle School won.  I was so relieved that we didn’t lose.  It was unexpected to win.  Looks like Room 5 was most responsible and trusty worthy.  It was pretty scary.

P.E. Gear by Neveh
Monday 12 March honest Room 4 lost 4 balls!! It is our responsibility to take care of our PE balls.   It happened at Clive School at lunch time.  Marylou collected all of the P.E. balls! Marylou is a hard worker.  She had to collect forty six P.E. balls! They cost four hundred and sixty dollars.  We have to keep our P.E. balls safe.  Room five lost one ball.  Middle School did really well but the Seniors didn’t do really well.  They even lost a skipping rope.  The Juniors really didn’t do well.  They lost heaps.  They are just little so they need help.

Library by Jacana
On Monday 19 March, Room 4 walked to the library.  First we get out our name card and silently Room 4 would go find a book.  That is for the people who were honest and said they forgot, they have to look at books.  The people who did bring their library book have to return their library book.  New books get issued.  After they have done that they can get another book out to read.  If they do not know if they like it or do not like it they can read the back of the book or they can read the book.  Jenni looks after the library.  She issues the books and returns the books.  At lunch time the Year 6 librarians silently look after the library so kids can read in the library.  I mean, that is what the library is for, right?

Library by Tilly
On Monday 19 March 2018 Room 4 and Ms Petherick walked proudly to wonderful Jenni’s library. Finally Room 4 and Ms Petherick are there!  “Shhhhhhhhhhh! It’s too noisey.” I think.  “Silence” I think.  I looked at blue dot books.  First book I picked is a small red book and it is called… ‘Tilly and the time machine!!!?’  I am so excited.  I have that book!  I don’t want it though.  I’ve already got it.  I can see a cool book.  I’m scanning this book.  I’m walking over somewhere else and I find ‘The Snow Queen’ and other stories.  I’m getting this book as well.  I’m walking to the line.  I wait patiently until it is my turn.
